On Encounter Rates in Star Clusters

چکیده
Close encounters between stars in star forming regions are important as they can perturb or destroy protoplanetary discs, young planetary systems, and stellar multiple systems. We simulate simple, viralised, equal-mass $N$-body clusters find that both the rate total number of varies by factors several statistically identical due to stochastic/chaotic details orbits dynamics. Encounters tend rapidly `saturate' core a cluster, with there each having many encounters, while more distant have none. However, we fraction had at least one encounter within particular distance grows same way (scaling crossing time half-mass radius) all clusters, present new (empirical) estimating distance.

Scaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters
We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...
متن کاملFormation rates of star clusters in the hierarchical merging scenario
Stars form with a complex and highly structured distribution. For a smooth star cluster to form from these initial conditions, the star cluster must erase this substructure. We study how substructure is removed using N-body simulations that realistically handle two-body relaxation. In contrast to previous studies, we find that hierarchical cluster formation occurs chiefly as a result of scatter...
متن کاملCompact binaries in star clusters II. Escapers and detection rates
We use a self-consistent Monte Carlo treatment of stellar dynamics to investigate black hole binaries that are dynamically ejected from globular clusters in order to determine if they will be gravitational wave sources. We find that many of the ejected binaries initially have short periods and will merge within a Hubble time due to gravitational wave radiation. Thus they are potential sources f...
متن کاملMerging Timescales and Merger Rates of Star Clusters in Dense Star Cluster Complexes
Abstract. Interacting galaxies like the famous Antennae (NGC 4038/4039) or Stephan’s Quintet (HCG 92) show considerable star forming activity in their tidal arms. High resolution images (e.g. from HST-observations) indicate that these regions consist of up to hundreds of massive stellar clusters or tidal dwarf galaxies (TDG). In this paper we want to investigate the future fate of these cluster...
متن کاملNuclear Star Clusters in Edge-on Galaxies
From observations of edge-on, late-type galaxies, we present morphological evidence that some nuclear star clusters have experienced in situ star formation. We find three nuclear clusters that, viewed from the edge-on perspective, have both a compact disk-like component and a spheroidal component. In each cluster, the disk components are closely aligned with the major axis of the host galaxy an...
